Boy Goes Viral For Wearing Face Mask In Class Photo: ‘My Mom Said to Keep It On All The Time’

A little boy from Nevada is going viral for his class photo — in which he wore a face mask — as proof that he really listens to his mother.

Earlier this week, Nicole Peoples of Las Vegas shared a Facebook photo of her son Mason posing for his first-grade portrait wearing the face mask she had instructed him to keep on at school. But the boy, so intent on following directions, refused to remove it, even for the photo. In her caption, Peoples shared the conversation between her son and the school photographer:

Photographer: Ok, take your mask off.
Mason: My mom said to keep it on all the time unless I’m eating and far away from everybody.
Photographer: I’m sure it’s ok to take it off for your pictures.
Mason: No, my mom seriously told me to make sure to keep it on.
Photographer: Are you sure you don’t want to take it off for 2 seconds?
Mason: No Thank you, I always listen to my mom!
Photographer: Ok, say cheese!”

“I’m so proud of him for sticking to his word but I should have been more clear about my rules on this day,” Peoples wrote in the post with 20K reactions and 15K shares, adding laughing emojis

The September 20th post went viral with people writing, “You should be proud! It has to be hard to stand up to an adult but he had the confidence to stand up for what he thought was right. Good job mama!” and “That’s hilarious! I wish some of my students were that committed to wearing their mask.”

Peoples later added an update to her post writing, “Mason and I are overjoyed and in awe of the outpouring of love that we have received over his picture day school picture. He has read so many of your comments with the biggest smile on his face! He is so happy to see so many people proud of him and saying he did such a good job!”

She continued, “All of you have made my little one’s day!! He is such a good kind hearted, caring, loving, smart, and helpful little boy. Thank you for showing him that his honesty and integrity will make a big difference in this world.”

Apparently, social media users were so moved by Mason’s story that they wanted to send him money for gifts, ice cream, or his college fund. So Peoples created a GoFundMe page which, as of Friday, has raised almost $3,500.

“Thank you again for your kind words and support showing him that following directions can make a BIG difference,” Peoples wrote on Facebook.
